Photographs of dippers by the water. Dippers like fast flowing rivers which are tree lined. Unless the winter is very hard, the dipper bird will remain in the uplands. This bird found in Scotland, swims, dives and wades into the water, with a springy and bouncy movement. Dipper birds eat mostly caddis fly or other larvae, small fish, crustaceans and molluscs. The bright chest of the dipper helps to camouflage it in the ripples of a stony upland river. In the winter a few will move to larger areas of water such as lochs but rarely to the coasts of Scotland.
